Places and times seen in Munakata city

Summer bird at Munakata. From April to October, it is commonly seen in the river, the Changxi dam, and the local reservoirs. Chapters are seen in Tangpu Dam, Tararawa Pond in the morning town.

Characteristic

Length 82 cm. Whole body waterfowl. Back and shoulder feathers, rain covering shiny brown brown, beak is white meat. The bare part of the corner of the mouth is yellow, the shape of the root tends to be rounded with no sharpness, and the bared part outside thereof is white. The iris is green.
At the breeding season, the bare beaks of the beak and mouth corners are darkened, and a reddish spot appears under the eyes. Linear, white breeding feathers grow on the head and shin, causing white spots at the base of the foot.
When flight the position of the bead samba is seen almost in the center.
It looks exactly like a cormorant but the shape of the base of the beak is round, the color of the back has a difference such as brown luster.

Habit

It lives in freshwater bodies such as ponds, dams and rivers. In the roost and breeding grounds, they spend time collectively, and fly to the feeding place early in the morning. A hundreds to thousands of populations are not uncommon in the garage. Dive and catch fish and swallow whole. At night I gather at a certain place (rooster) and go to bed. For this reason the cormorant roosted forest is white with cormorant feces.

distribution

It is distributed as an abandoned bird from Honshu to Kyushu and inhabits from coast to river, lake (including dam lake, reservoir pond etc.). It becomes summer bird in Hokkaido and winter bird in south of Kyushu.

Other

As temporary, extinction was concerned, it became the object of protection, but because the reproductive power is strong and rapidly increased, as mentioned above, trees are greatly damaged, the forest dies, the number of fish predators is large, the fishery damage (Fish farm, freshwater fish) expanded, measures are taken in various places. Even in Munakata, cormorants departed from eastern Japan and Kansai are on the increase.
The cormorant is not used in this species, but is a cormorant.
