Forest of Munakata - Caseyama as an example
▲ Plant observation party
It is a picture of the plant observation party I went in Shiroyama. On 2 December 2000, I took it at the athletics field of Fukuoka University of Education. Although it is an ordinary picture, please pay attention not to the person here but the Shiroyama in the background here. Several kinds of forests are shown. Why can you tell the type of forest just by looking from far away? This is because trees that make forest have characteristics of each kind.
▲ Evergreen and deciduous trees
Trees are distinguished into evergreen trees and deciduous trees with leaf life spans, broadleaf trees and conifers in the form of leaves, tall trees and shrubs in size (height). When these are combined, evergreen broad-leaved trees are said to be evergreen broad-leaved trees, cherry is deciduous broad-leaved trees, and cedar is evergreen needle-leaved trees.
▲ From left: Arakashi, Camphor tree, Broadleaf tree over the Yabutsubaki. Fir, Chamaecyparis obtusa, Cryptomeria japonica, Conifer than coniferous trees
▲ Photo left: hemispherical (Yokoyama / Kusunoki) Right: conical (Temple of the Temple)
A tree can be divided into a trunk part and a branch and leaf part (crown, ju kan), but also in the form of a crown, the type of the tree can be roughly discerned. Hemispherical type is a tree type which is often found in hardwood species, conical type is a tree type which is often found in conifer species. Besides this there are types like shrues, bamboo pines and pines. The difference in tree shape is due to how the branch attaches to the trunk.

Leaf color changes with the season. In evergreens (shinnosuki) with a leaf life span of 1 year or more, yellow leaves → green and dark green, leaf longevity in deciduous trees (Hazenoki) with a few months, yellowish green → green → yellow and red after falling leaves I will. In the meantime, if the flowers bloom, evergreens (Shinoki) and deciduous trees (Yamazakura) are more rich in color change. Even in evergreen trees, old leaves fall when fresh green.

If you look at Shiroyama once again with features such as the shape, color and size of the tree, the following forests will be distinguished. The name of the forest is represented by the plant name which is the most there.
Shii forest
Slopes and ridges above middle level. Dark green color. Hemispherical crown. Evergreen broad leaf trees forest.
Major tall trees are Shinoki, Arakashi, Vladder, Tunnoki, Shirodamo, Yabunikkei, Kagonoki, Isnaki etc.
Mukuroji forest / Mukunoki forest
Foothills of the mountain ~ Valley of the middle. Yellow ~ ocher color. Hemispherical crown. Deciduous Broad Leaf Height
A tree forest. Major tall trees are Mukuroji, Mukunoki, Enoki, Kaya and so on.
Hinoki plantations
Middle abdomen, upper left of white pole. Dark green color. Conical crown. Evergreen needle-leaved trees forest.
The main tall trees are hinoki, but deciduous trees such as redfish and crow's shaw and evergreen trees of the Shinchi Forest are mixed unless they are groomed, and bamboo species come in from nearby bamboo groves.
Cedar plantations
Midnight, middle. Green, in winter it turns brown as it adds male flowers. A closed umbrella-shaped crown.
Evergreen needle-leaved trees forest. The main tall trees are Sugi. If it is not careful, it will be like a cypress plantation.
Moso wood forest
Midnight, right above the white building. When green and bamboo shoots grow, the color becomes thin.
The main tall trees are mops. If it is not careful, it will be the same as afforestation of hinoki and cedar.
