1979 (Showa 54) Munakata Town Cultural Property Survey Report No. 1 / "Aihara Kofun Group"
It is the first excavation report of the former Munakata town to commemorate. A professional staff member of a cultural property that can be in charge of excavation at Munakata was not assigned yet, so excavation survey was conducted by the Fukuoka Prefectural Board of Education. From November 1973 to September 53, the survey of 22 tumuli was conducted, and it turned out that it was an ancient burial mound group which continued to be operated from the first half of the 6th century to the latter half of the 7th century. Among them, a very rare Shilla pottery (Shiragogi) has been excavated from No. 2 mound (20.8 m in diameter) built in the first half of the 7th century. Shilla pottery is a blue gray ceramic pottery brought from Shilla of the Korean peninsula. It is characterized by geometrically drawing brilliant patterns such as flower statements and yen sentences on the surface using compasses and stamps. It can be said that it is a prestigious product that shows the exchange between Munakata and the Korean Peninsula.
