Characteristic

Total length 15 cm to 16 cm. It is the size of the sparrow position.
Males have black eyes and a red throat to the eyelids.
Females are white or pale brown. Some individuals may have a slight crimson color.
From the forehead to the upper surface of the body is olive-brown, and there are gray-black lines around the red of the throat, but some individuals do not.
The lower surface below the belly is brownish, and both males and females are marked with erythema, and the chin line is a double line.
Female eyes become blackish brown.
The brows are black and the feet are fleshy.

Habit

It flies from flatland to alpine meadows, coastal grasslands, shrub forests and pastures. At the breeding grounds, they have a pair and a turf, and the males stop in high places and look after them. Jump around the earth to eat earthworms, insect larvae and spiders.
It sounds like "Koo," "Thuy," and so on, and "Hyoy Chuy Chui Chuu."

As summer birds, they inhabit grasslands, meadows, pairs of white pines, etc. in Hokkaido's plains and alpine areas. There is an example of breeding in Mt. Hayaike in Iwate Prefecture. At the time of migration, we pass riverbed grassland, river forest, urban park, garden of house from the Honshu to the southwestern islands. In the Nansei Islands, part of it winters. In the Yaeyama Islands, in particular, a considerable number of trees are overwintering in sugarcane fields, riverbeds, forest margins, etc.
Breeds in eastern Siberia, Kamchatka Peninsula, Karaft, Kuril Islands, Hokkaido, and overwinters in Indochina Peninsula, Philippines, etc.
