Places and times seen in Munakata city
Munakata is a winter bird. From November to early March, observations can be made throughout the city. However, the arrival number often fluctuates depending on the year, and there are many that are observed and years that are not observed much.
Characteristic
Total length 10 cm. It is the smallest category among birds that can be observed in Japan. At first glance it resembles musicals. It is the same color in both sexes.
On the top of the head, yellow spots, black on both sides. For male, there is also an orange line in the middle of it. Forehead, the upper body surface of the back is green tea green, the face is gray brown, and the surroundings of the eyes are whitish. The lower part of the body is light yellowish brown, the wings and tails are dark green brown, the wind break base is black, the middle and heavy rain covering, the three row wind cutting tip is white, becoming two wing bands and conspicuous. The beak is thin, dark brown, the iris is dark brown, the foot is dark brown, and the toes are yellowish brown.
Habit
I like the coniferous forest of the subalpine belt from the mountains north of the Chubu district, and it also appears in the flat land during the wintering season. Many individuals live in small groups other than breeding season. Eat aphids, spiders, etc. by doing flight flight with branches and others.
