Places and times seen in Munakata city

In Munakata it is a traveling bird, there are times when it is rarely observable at the time of migration (around the middle of April to mid May, around October). Observation records on Munakata Okinoshima remain.

Characteristic

Total length 16 cm. It is bigger than a sparrow. They are almost same color in both sexes.
In winter feathers, the back of the neck from the top to the back of the neck is yellowish brown, the lower part of the body below the face from the forehead is blackish brown, and there are rose colored vertical spots aside.
In females, this vertical plaque is light tan and the whole looks dull.
The top of the body below the back is blackish brown and feathers turn yellowish brown. Wind, the wing feathers of part of the rain cover are rosy, the beak is yellowish brown, and the foot is black brown.

Habit

There are many things that fly to the rocky plains and grasslands of the mountains to rocky places of the coast, and live in the herd. It is sometimes observed from several to tens of birds, sometimes hundreds of flocks. Move around a wide range well, jump on the ground, eat grass seeds.
Sounds are "Junjun", "Peep" and so on.

distribution

As a winterbird I fly from the flatlands of the whole country to the forests of the mountains, cliffs, grasslands, agricultural lands. The destinations are local and less in western Japan. There are many in the north of the Chubu region.
Near the Pacific coast of North America from Alaska to California and the Rocky Mountains, near Kamchatka Peninsula, Kalafut, Amur River Basin, Lake Baikal neighborhood, and winter birds on the Korean Peninsula.
