Places and times seen in Munakata city
Originally it is a summer bird or an abandoned bird, but in Munakata it is a traveling bird, and there are observation records in the islands and the like at the time of the spring and autumn migration (about May around September). However, opportunities to observe with Munakata are limited.
Characteristic
Total length 14 cm. It is smaller than sparrow.
Male is orange brown from the top of the head to the top, red orange brown from forehead to face, chest. The chest is black gray and the belly and below are somewhat pale gray black.
Females are more prone to brown, face from forehead, orange brown in chest. Below the chest is grayish brown with no grayish black band.
The beak is dark brown and the iris is dark brown. The feet are blackish.
Habit
They inhabit the forests where bamboo trees in the subalpine belt grow from the mountains and forests where the grass grows on the forest floor. Eat worms, insect larvae, spiders, etc. while jumping over the mossy rocks and the ground. "Zizzi", "Tie" and so on, and he says "Hinkara".
distribution
The Japanese archipelago is the main habitat area. Even if it is viewed worldwide, outside of Japan it can only be seen as a winterbird in the area around Hong Kong.
