Places and times seen in Munakata city

In Munakata, it is a traveling bird, and it is rarely observed on farmlands and islands during the spring / autumn period (around May and September). There are few birds, and the observation opportunities are limited.

Characteristic

Total length is 12.5cm. It is the smallest of cheek whites that can be observed in Japan. Same sex color.
Natsuha has a dark orange-brown head, black-brown lines on the head, cheeks, and jawline. There are white eye rings. The back and side necks are grayish brown, the upper body below the back is light brown, and there are blackish brown vertical spots. The lower part of the body below the heel is light brown, with dark brown vertical spots from the chest to the flank.
Winter feathers are generally grayish brown and the face is light orange brown and duller than summer feathers. The waist is grayish brown with blackish brown vertical spots.
The upper half is dark brown and the lower half is grayish brown. The feet are light brown.

Habit

Fly from plains to sparse forests, grasslands, rivers, and farmland. They often act in flocks and eat grass seeds and spiders on the grassland at the edge of the forest.
“Chi” screams and sings “Chuy Chuyichichichu”.

distribution

It flies as a traveling bird or a small winter bird. There are many records mainly in Kojima on the Sea of Japan side. Munakata is one example.
It breeds in the Eurasian continent (excluding the Arctic and Alpine regions) and around Finland, and overwinters in Fujian, Guangdong, Yunnan, Myanmar, Laos, and other countries.
