Places and times seen in Munakata city
It is a summer bird at Munakata, and it can be seen from the end of March until around October. They are seen in the sandbar of the river and the gravel lands along the river. Also, there are cases in the paddy field to fly for feeding.
Breeding in Munakata is confirmed.
Characteristic
Total length 16 cm. Male and female are almost same color.
In the male Natsuwaka, the frontal and overfrontal lines are black and the forehead and forehead are white. Yellow eye ring stands out. Sandy brown on the top. The beak is black, and rarely there are individuals with yellow-orange bases. The foot is yellow. There is almost no wingspan.
In females, there is a brownish color in the ophthalmic line. The black color of the face and chest disappears and turns brown all over in the winters.
The young bird has a light color feather edge on the top and a pale yellow color on the eyelin.
Habit
It inhabits rivers, tidelands, paddy fields, landfill sites and propagates in gravel fields with few grass such as riverbeds and foundations.
Entry to the breeding area is early, and it will appear around March. It catches small insects with shallow waterfalls or the like, or swings one leg to eat aquatic insects and eat.

It is coming as summer birds north of Kyushu. A few are overwintering in the south of Honshu.
