Places and times seen in Munakata city

It is a winterbird and can be seen from October to April.
In addition to being common in the middle of the river, you can also see it in the tributaries and ponds of the river.

Characteristic

Total length 38 cm. It is the smallest in ducks that can be seen in Japan.
The males have a chestnut head, and the back of the eyes is green from the eyes. There is a light thin line on the boundary between the green of the face and the maroon. The body is gray, the wings are first row off, the rain cover is dark brown, and the large and middle raincoat are grayish. The wing mirror is green and the top and bottom are sandwiched between white lines.
Females are brown all and have blackish brown spots. The beak is black, but the base is slightly yellow but there are thin white spots on both sides of the bottom tube.

Habit

It can be seen in rivers and ponds. Other

There are ducks of the type which dive in water (diving feeding duck) and kinds which do not divide in water (water surface feeding duck). Types that can be seen in Munakata, representatives of types that do not divide in water are colegamo and mallard.
