Places and times seen in Munakata city

It is a winter bird in Munakata, and can be seen from November to March.
It can be seen in a residential pond, a dam lake, etc. Some places can be observed at relatively short distances.

Characteristic

Total length is 40cm.
The male is white from side to belly and the other is black. The head has a purple luster, and there are crown feathers hanging from the back of the head. The cocoon is blue-gray, and the black tip is spread over the entire tip of the cocoon. A thin white band can be seen between black and blue-gray.
Females are generally black-brown, with some individuals having vitiligo at the base of the heel and some individuals with a white tail tube. The sides are lighter than the top.
In both sexes, the wing belt is white and the iris is yellow.

Habit

It can be seen in inner bays, rivers, reservoirs, dam lakes, etc. Dive and prey on aquatic plants, shellfish, crustaceans, aquatic insects, etc. Often in the freshwater area with diving foraging ducks.

distribution

It breeds in the northern part of the Eurasian Continent and overwinter in Europe, northern Africa, the Middle East, India, East Asia. In Japan, it fly to the whole country as a winterbird.

Other

This species is a dive foraging duck. A common species is Suzugamo, which needs to be distinguished. However, in Munakata, there are an overwhelming number of goldfish and few suzugamo.
In addition, the tuber gull is often in the seawater area, and the blackfin tuna is often in the fresh water area.
