Places and times seen in Munakata city
In Munakata, it is a winter bird and can be seen from October to March. However, there are fewer opportunities to see in Munakata compared to Umiisa and Mikoisa. Sometimes seen in the dam lake or the downstream of the Tsuri River (downstream from Kamigata Bridge).
Characteristic
Total length 65mm.
The male is black with a green gloss on the head, no crown, and the back of the head appears swollen. The side from the neck is white. The back is black, the upper tail tube is gray from the waist, the tail is gray black, and the rain cover and the next row wind are white.
The female head is brown and has short crown feathers. The chest is white and the border with the head is clear. The sides from the top, tail, and lower neck are gray. The rain cover is gray and the next row wind is white.
Both males and females have a white underside and a black tip. The iris is brown.
