Places and times seen in Munakata city
Munakata is a traveling bird, the opportunity to be observed is rare. There are some observation records on Munakata Okinoshima.
Characteristic
Length 16 cm to 17 cm. It is the same size as a sparrow. Beaks intersect with each other (Crossbill in English name is named for this feature.
Male, whole body orange red. Wings and tails are dark brown, feathers are reddish.
Females are yellowish green brown, forehead and gray brown.
Beaks, feet are dark brown.
Habit
It lives in flat pine and mountainous pine forests. Living in flocks all year round, mainly eating pine nuts and seeds.
"Kuyukyu Purupuririririyokkyotchi" and so on and flies, "Pyotchi" will sing in two voices.
distribution
Mainly as winterbirds live in flatland nationwide, coniferous forests of mountains, needle wide mixed forests and the like. There are breeding records in winter in mountainous areas in Hokkaido, northern and central Honshu. Observation cases are often seen in summer as well.
