平地から山地にかけて広く見られる。オスは山頂で占有行動をする性質があり、城山、許斐山、新立山、湯川山などの山頂で縄張りを主張して占有飛行する光景が見られる。食草はセリ科のパセリ、ミツバ、ニンジン、ハナウド、ヨロイグサ等である。沖ノ島では未発見である。
