1980 (Showa era 55) Munakata Town Cultural Property Survey Report 3rd Collection / "Kugo Burial Mound II"

It is the 2nd investigation report of the Kugoto burial mound group. From April 1954 to June 1996, excavation survey was conducted by the Fukuoka Prefectural Board of Education. Seven burial mounds built from the first half to the latter half of the 7th century and 17 lateral pit tombs were detected in a group of tombs that were run on hilly slopes at an altitude of 30 m to 40 m. Horizontal hole tombs are to build tomb chambers by digging sideways holes on hillside slopes without building stone chambers, so far it was considered to be a tomb system only if they do not crowd in the eastern eastern part of the country. As an unexpected fact it was surprising at that time that we did an investigation. Also, it is noteworthy that the 19 th tomb (8 m in diameter) has excavated important relics such as a small circular tomb, but also a gold-plated bronze scalp head (Keikkashi Keigashira) .
