Places and times seen in Munakata city
In Munakata it is a traveling bird, in the spring and autumn migration season, it is occasionally seen in ridges of rice paddies, muddy lodge of reservoir ponds. If anything, I often see it in the spring migration period.
Characteristic
The total length is 25 cm. It is the same color in both sexes.
The head is bigger than the body, the rear and the tail of the body are short, so it looks like a clog. Eyes also look big. The tail protrusion from the wing is the least, the tail feather is 22 to 28 sheets, usually 26 sheets. Six to eight pairs of outer tail feet are thin and short and needle-shaped only with coaxial phonons (nomenclature for Harioshibi).
Habit
It fly to relatively dry paddy field, farmland, river, grassland, pond and swamp mud. Eat earthworms and larvae of insects with ridges of paddy fields and farm roads without entering much in the water.
distribution
It is a traveling bird recorded almost in the whole country, but it is rare in Hokkaido, and it flew much to the west of the Chubu region.
Breed in Siberia and overwind on the Indian subcontinent, Indochina Peninsula, Sumatra Island, Borneo Island, Java Island, Celebes Island.
