Characteristic

Adult birds are black on the forehead and face, and on the chest from the brow, and have white and black streaky patches from the brow to the occipital area. The iris is dark.

Habit

It is a winter bird and travels north of Kyushu, and less in the southwestern islands. In recent years, it is also found in northern Honshu and southern Hokkaido. A few may be mixed with a flock of orange glass.
